For this week, I decided to go for an article that would interest us by learning about how, shows like "Spongebob" can lower our pace of learning in our school education, especially young aged kids.

Why does this post relates to this weeks question?
I think that first of all the definition of print media, is information that can be seeing in pictures and on the Internet. This type of media can really help promote a persons business and get credibility for it. Basically it's kind of advertising, in a way. This article is relevant because it provides you with serious information about a child's learning, and it attracts people's attention because it is an issue that can affect a person in the future. that way business can seek much more attention from there audience because they provide stories, like the one that I am posting for you all :). Enjoy and comment!

Question:*MY OPINION/THOUGHT ONLY* Do you think that Spongebob is a good Television show? Why or Why not?

  1. Well, ever since i was very young my parents prevented me from ever watching spongebob since they believe that it was a very senseless show, eventually through out the years i never saw a single episode of spongebob that now when i did once see it i believed that the show was not meant for young viewers and or even older viewers too. These kinds of shows i believe do not educate children and or help children at all, having brainless characters might later on in the future influence the kids that watched it to act the same and there for prevent their learning process. Shows now have taken that rout of having very ridiculous characters that now television for me does not seem important or entertaining because now i know that their could be a source of brain wash in younger children and or audience through out the companies control in the show. Can these sorts of television shows later actually affect children since now they seem to be more of a popularity in television channels. Ex South park, Family Guide, Adventure time, and or Jersey shore which is not a cartoon show but seems to have the same qualities and what should be done about those shows?

  2. First of all i love how you go straight to your point, i think everyone has there own different opion. My opinion is that sponge bob is not that bad i've always watched Nickelodeon since i was little and i think spongebob is just another cartoon to entertain kids and even teens. They never said spongebob was meant to educate kids or teach them a lesson is just like another cartoon movie for example Disney not all movies are meant for little kids but we still watch them and enjoy having a great laugh as a family. So why not start and focus on the little things that are happening around us?

  3. I have to say that I don't agree with the studies and as one person said in the video, that the data was invalidated because there weren't enough people. Plus i grew up with Spongebob just like everyone else in my family, and we don't act crazy. I'm not going to lie though at times we are goofy but that's because we love to laugh. Not only that my 4-year-old cousin would watch it every now and then but would never mimic what he saw on tv. I personally feel that it's refreshing that Spongebob is still around because now a days cartoons have had things that shouldn't be seen by little kids. Ex: Adventure time, and the amazing world of Gumball. Plus if Spongebob is getting negative attention after being on the air for so long than why aren't any of the yo-gi-oh cartoons, pokemon, of dragon ball z kai getting those same issues if they have some cary antics of their own.

  4. Commenting on Edwin's post. In my opinion I love that he chose the article about Spongbob because as soon as I saw it I got attracted by the pictures and even the name because the show is popular to me. That ties into the role of print media like Edwin said that it's used to attract/promote people through internet and pictures. That's what this article is doing it's promoting how Spongebob can lower pace our learning through the internet but, whoever wrote the article chose this specifically because they know that many people love Spongebob and if they put this up then lots of people would see it which is true. I got attracted fast just because it said Spongebob!

  5. Like most people my age, I grew up watching Spongbob and even though I carry around a lot of flaws, I don't see how any one of them could be the effect from watching Spongbob everyday as a kid. I agree that Spongebob Squarepants isn't a very educational show, but can't a kid just watch something to just be entertained. Sometimes I start watching shows on Cartoon Network and wonder the point of any of these shows. Now this proves that all because a show isn't educational, it doesn't mean its a bad shoow. Nevertheless, I agree with what Stacie said. Honestly, I was really attracted to this article for the same reason: Spongebob was on the title.

  6. As most of us know, we've all grown up watching spongebob in our life and have greatly enjoyed it. But I do think that these studies are pretty defined in that they do reduce the attention span of children. I mean we have to think, spongebob usually only comes on during the day, and who's at home watching this during the day? kids who still aren't in school. So of course this will effect their learning ability even though the show doesn't intentionally want to do this, it's going to happen. I mean has anybody watched spongebob lately? It doesn't make much sense, and laughing at it sometimes makes me feel stupid because its just non-sense and pretty colors. Spongebob is pretty much the kids version of Family Guy, Its funny but its just random action/jokes for entertainment.
